Shed tears of joy for Media Molecule’s new IP

Media Molecule’s Alex Evans took the opportunity to announce their new IP Tearaway during the Sony keynote on Gamescom. The new 3D adventure game is for PS Vita and joins Derrick The Deathfin in the ranks of papercrafty PlayStation platformers.

Interestingly enough it seems that the skillful gameplay wizards over at MM have put great care into the mechanics of the game. While most of them looks like fun, screaming into your Vita on the bus might get… awkward. Here’s how Spaff, the Community Manager described the effort:

With Tearaway, we’re looking to create an adventure game with a twist, where you, the player, can literally get stuck in using all of PS Vita’s novel inputs like backtouch, tilt sensors, camera, and microphone to connect you to iota and the paper world. Using the god-like powers inherent to someone who can hold an entire world in their giant hands, you can make your presence felt using a whole range of godly powers that take advantage of all of the Vita’s bells and whistles—some subtle and some epic. You can shake things up or turn them upside down. A gentle breath from you is a gusty storm. You can even poke your fingers into the back of the PS Vita to tear through into the world and help iota complete this very special delivery.

The story of Tearaway stars a charming little being called Iota. Adventure through the vibrant world where everything in it is made out of paper. The trailer features some astonishing looking environments and the song Shut Eye by Stealing Sheep. Needless to say (Hello new avatar!), I really dig this!
