HDCP-removal and improved sharing features in upcoming firmware

Sharing stuff is fun! That’s why Sony made a button dedicated to it on the DualShock 4. With it you can stream, capture and screenshot your awesome skills at gaming for the world to admire. But as the most eager users already know, the feature set is a bit lacking – something that is being fixed within the next few weeks thanks to user feedback.

There are two updates coming so let’s start with the first:

· There will be an option to turn HDCP off. That means you will soon be able to capture through HDMI using your favorite equipment. This in turn means you can capture as long as you want to, and not be limited to the 15 minutes of footage currently being the limit in PS4’s internal capture software.
· The announcement didn’t mention anything about YouTube, but you will be able to export to USB as well as Facebook in the next update. This will make getting your 15 minutes of fame a little bit easier.
· Be prepared for flower frames and lens flares. A supposedly rich video editor will also be part of the next firmware.

Following this update will be a second one at a later point:
· The ability to archive your streams on Twitch. This is a bit of a hooray. Twitch streams will also be in 720p.

Are you taking advantage of the share button, and what do you use it for?
