Street Fighter V will let you earn future DLC for free by playing the game

There were happy times all around during Capcom’s EVO 2015 panel regarding the upcoming PS4/PC exclusive Street Fighter V. It seems Capcom might have learned a thing or two about splitting up their player base with their absurd amount of iterations for each game, and now instead aims to deliver Street Fighter V as a service. What this really means is that you will have the option to either purchase upcoming content like character, or you can earn them for free by sticking with the game and playing it.

The game will feature two currencies to achieve this, Fight Money (which you’re probably familiar with) and Zenny, which is the in-game currency you buy for real money. So basically it’s up to you whether you want to put in the extra work to get the next character for free, or if you just want to pay up right away. Capcom will perform a beta to balance the in-game economy for it to make as much sense as possible. At least we hope it’ll make sense.

Some other details were also announced at the panel. The initial roster will contain 16 characters where 4 are brand new (including the recently announced Necalli). The game supports cross-platform play between the PC and PS4 and will have new netcode developed to hopefully make this a painless experience.
