Destiny 2 is mixing PVE and PVP, new location, bows and random weapons rolls starting with year 2’s Forsaken expansion

In case you missed it, Bungie had their Destiny 2 year 2 stream yesterday, which kicks off on September 4 with the Forsaken expansion. But Forsaken is shaping up to be a lot more than people might have expected based on previously released DLC, it is literally a game changer, introducing some sorely missed Destiny 1 features while also bringing in new weapon types, location, raid and the most interesting mode to hit the game thus far.

Location, location, location
Did you miss the Reef? Good news, you’ll be able to venture back to a location called Tangled Shore within it, in which you will most likely be chasing down the Barons (there is eight of them, and apparently they are bad news). You will also be fighting The Scorn, and that sounds badass too.

Gambit
The brand new fusion of PVP and PVE mode is called Gambit. In it, two teams of four is restricted to their own region of the map fighting enemies and earning motes. By banking in motes you sabotage the other teams ability to bank, while also progressing your run by summoning stronger and stronger enemies until you get to the end-boss which you of course shoot at lot at and beat in order to win. During the match you will occasionally open a gateway to the other team where you’ll be wise to send the most efficient killing machine you have on the team, seeing as he will be doing some 1 vs 4 havoc on the other side. This sounds about 50 times more fun than the regular PVP modes available in Destiny 2 right now.

I am, I am, I am Superman, and I have a giant new randomly rolled bow
All classes will get a new super. You’ll be creating hurricanes of fire by smashing an axe to the ground, throwing knives and beaming stuff. Year 2 also introduces bows as a weapon type, which will, along with all other weapons dropping in year two, roll with random stats like they did in the first Destiny. If you really, really like bows, you might even be able to slot 3 of them at the same time, as weapons slots are being revamped as well.

I have a dream … about a new raid location
Sick and tired of raid layers? Tell me about it. The Forsaken introduces The Dreaming City which works as both the raid location and a source of endgame content, more of which will be detailed at a later point. You can however expect a ton of puzzles both in and outside the raid, as well as the highest boss count in a Destiny raid ever.

Bungie is also introducing an annual pass for year 2. You can buy the Forsaken separately ($39.99) or as part of the annual pass ($69.99). The annual pass will grant you access to three upcoming DLCs (Black Armory, winter 2018, Joker’s Wild, spring 2019, Penumbra, summer 2019) along with other premium content. There will still be a lot of stuff dropping for those who choose not to opt-in on the pass, so you’re not totally left out. You can also earn new stuff by completing tasks and goals which will be laid out in the Collection. The Collection will keep track of pretty much every single thing you fancy doing in Destiny, and may reward you for it if it chooses so. There will of course be new gear, weapons and exotics to hunt for.

Man, this sounds like a lot of stuff. As someone who fell hard off Destiny 2 way faster than I though I would, this surely caught my attention. What do you make of it?
