Titan Attacks! is another spin on the Space Invaders formula, and this time you're not only defending earth against the attack of the Titans, you're bringing the fight to them. It sports a retro look, but for what it might lack in visual extravaganza, it compensates with highly accessible gameplay, ship upgrades and leaderboards. Through its 5 worlds you will encounter various enemy types that not only fire back, but will also drop bombs and even try to ram you. The game will occasionally send a flying saucer across the screen which gives you random imminent boosts like extra shielding, special weapons or cash to add some spice.

pro

By earning cash you get to upgrade your tanks's capabilities. You can add new weaponry like lasers and missiles, or you can increase the strength of your shots and how many bullets you shoot at once. It's a nice touch and when you're fully upgraded your once petite tank is now a bulky looking piece of mass destruction.

pro

After completing all worlds you will simply start from the beginning, but you keep your upgrades and cash. It gives you an opportunity to climb higher on the leaderboards and poses a slightly higher challenge than the run before it. Considering a complete playthrough is done in an hour, this is certainly a plus.

con

It doesn't take a lot of upgrades before you can pretty much obliterate every ship on screen in a matter of seconds. By always having maxed out shields (they deplete as you get hit), and hammering the X-button, you'll surf through the game in no time. You have to play through the complete cycle several times before enemies start to pose a challenge.

con

The upgrade system, while cool, is also limited. After a few worlds there will be nothing left to upgrade and earning cash becomes practically pointless. Combine this with a lack of difficulty and the experience can become tedious, even for someone chasing scores on a leaderboard when there's nothing left to gain but points.

con

Occasionally enemies will eject from their ships, and you have to capture them to prevent being punished with a cash loss. The problem is that when a single shot is fired with an upgraded tank, you will pretty much mow down everything in the way, including the falling alien. It's not a huge deal, but it's slightly annoying when you have this mechanic in the first place.
