Edge preview of Last Guardian confirms 2016 release and tails on fire

That certainly is a striking cover.

You back already? Good. The Last Guardian, despite the jokes, the delays, the vanishing, the resurfacing, the myth if you will – is out this year as planned. At least according to the game’s creator Fumito Ueda in a recent interview in Edge magazine. The at times rough and long development time seems to amount to something special though, as more details were shed on game mechanics and AI in particular. Trico will definitely have a mind of its own. This means that Trico won’t necessarily always be there for you, or even think that whatever it is you’re about to do is a good idea. His eyes will change color based on mood, so you might want to take a step back and chill on the “sit”-commands if that red tint becomes apparent.

When he does decide to be pal, you can summon a shield on which Trico can fire lighting from his tail which will then deflect and hit whatever it is you are aiming it. This is used for environmental puzzles, and perhaps a fight or two if this becomes the case. There is still a whole lot of things we don’t know about The Last Guardian, but at least we can live happily knowing that it will most probably be in your hands later this year.
