PS4 Firmware 5.0 is out and about – brings tournaments and better streaming options

After six iterations of beta firmware, 5.0 is finally out for everyone to enjoy.

The firmware allows teams to compete against teams in brackets in various games. Few are supported now, but more will come according to Sony. You can manage and put together teams in games like Uncharted 4 and Mantis Burning Racing, chat and conquer.

There is also 1080p/60fps streaming support via Twitch if you got a pro. Master and sub accounts have been ditched for the new family system, giving more control over who plays when and what and limit the movie selection to the appropriate audience within the family. These accounts and options can be controlled through a web interface as well.

Follow options have been strictly for verified accounts, but are now open for all, which means you can kick your stalking into high gear and everyone. Just don’t be creepy about it.

A lot of other tweaks are implemented as well, with improved messaging, friends list and notifications. Check out the blog post for more details.
