Sony’s new head-mounted 3D display will cost $1700

Sony is showcasing their new wireless head-mounted 3D display at the IFA exhibition in Berlin. The new model is called HMZ-T3W  and is lighter (330 vs 320 grams) than its predecessor and feel more comfortable wearing for long periods of time. The battery will last up to 7 hours and you can connect it to a smartphone.

The screens are two OLED ones with 1280×720 pixel resolution which in practice means you get a virtual field of view of 750″ at a distance of 20 meters. There is a headset included but you can also connect your own.

The catch? It will be available in November for $1700, €1300. It remains to be seen if there will be a budget version of this model with VR functionality announced at TGS for the PS4 or not.
