Fight the Moon Nazis in Iron Sky: Invasion

You really don’t see space combat simulators everyday. They were all the rage in the 90’s but then something happened, they just fell out of the sky. Games like TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Wing Commander comes to mind. Iron Sky: Invasion‘s core game mechanics are ship-to-ship dogfights mixed in with some resource management, strategy and RPG elements.

You guessed it, the game is based on the sci-fi movie Iron Sky but I don’t think this is a bad thing actually, the art direction and graphics are pretty nice. Almost all spaceships that appear in the film can be acquired  in game, including the South-Korean scout ship “Zerg”, the Australian bomber “Dundee”, and the UK fighter “Spitfire”. And if Moon Nazis doesn’t get your blood pumping I don’t know what will!

Anyway. As the protector of earth you will receive missions from various nations around the globe, and if you complete them special rewards are given, such as precious upgrades or even fancy new ships.

You will freely roam space and attack Nazi vessels at your pleasure.  The goal is to destroy the hidden base on the dark side of the Moon and keep the earth safe from the invaders at the same time. Your craft will be equipped with laser cannons, missiles, drones and satellites. You can also access a tactical map of outer space to spot the positions of Nazi forces or allied space stations where you can purchase weapons, upgrades or even switch ships.

The developer Reality Pump has been working on Iron Sky: Invasion in close connection with the filmmakers and Miroslav Dymek had this to say about the project:

“We wanted to create a space simulation game blending political and tactical components, with the added absurdity of Moon Nazi humor. We wanted to bring back Space fighter-style gameplay, and knew from the very beginning the world of Iron Sky would be a perfect match.”

I can’t say it without thinking about cows for some reason…?

Anyways, Star Wars: Rouge Squadron for N64 was amazing. If it can live up to that, GIMME!

Haha yeah well cows are prone to being abducted, and aliens are from space… :D Anyway, I don’t think you will be able to fly near any planets like you did in Rouge Squadron, just space dog fights, I hope I’m wrong though!
