Fumito Ueda gives update on The Last Guardian

Team Ico’s third game, The Last Guardian, has been in development since 2007, that’s 6 years ago. Compare that to Duke Nukem Forever which was finally released after a whopping 14 years after it was announced.

Is it just a coincident that Fumito Ueda gave this update just a week before the big PlayStation 4 announcement? Hopefully the the spiritual successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is not far away now.

“To all persons interested

As some of you have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. However, I continue to work on The Last Guardian as independent contributor.

Even if it takes time to get out, The Last Guardian is under my supervision and creative development is still in an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that the details of the release of The Last Guardian are entirely determined by Sony Computer Entertainment, not me. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

For the rest, it is my intention to continue to get involved in the project, The Last Guardian, as well as to pursue new creative projects with a new perspective. While I revived my creative passions, I can not wait to find out where they lead me, and I appreciate very much your support during this transition.”
